Le Brevent Skiing - Pistes of Chamonix

The Brevent ski area is on the south side of the Chamonix valley and is the most noticeable ski area from the town centre.

Le Brevent has a relatively updated lift from the valley built in 2008 consisting of 6 seater gonglers taking you to plan praz (2000m) meaning that queues from here are often non existent.

From the top of these gondolas you can than take the large cable car straight to the top of the mountain at 2525m where you can experience fantastic 360 degree views before a thrilling black run down the Charles Bozon.

Both the Plan Praz Le Brevent cable car are open in both the winter and summer months and during the summer months you can enjoy fabulous walks including the Grand Balcon sud and trips to Lake Cornu.

Brevent also offers great opportunities for wildlife spotting during the summer months, including Marmotts and Ibex, not to mention various species of birds. Brevent is a popular starting point for Paragliders in the valley at the top of Plan Praz, this is available in both summer and winter.

Le Brevent is host to some good restaurants in the valley. One being a fabulous restaurant at the very top (2525) enjoying 360 degree views open in both the summer and winter aptly named Le Panoramique. Le Bergerie is another popular eatery at Le Brevent situated at the top of Plan Praz enjoying a sunny terrace in both summer and winter.

Both these restaurants are available to pedestrians, so even if you are a non skier out in the winter, they are both easily accessible to all, making them ideal meeting points for lunch.

Not only is Le Brevent great for hikes and skiing, it is also great for downhill mountain biking and the finishing point for the famous Mont blanc marathon that takes place every year in June and is also the finishing point for the Cross du mont blanc the same weekend, there is also a race that takes place from Chamonix up the Plan Praz face following the route of the gondelas. This is called the vertical KM.

For skiing, Le Brevent is south facing, making it a great spot to be on a sunny day. When the snow conditions are good, it is possible to ski from the summit all the way back down into Chamonix giving you 1500m vertical that starts above the tree line, finishing with a picturest cat track route through the forest to finish.

For beginners, Le Brevent has a wonderful nursery slope, Clos du Savoie at the bottom which is great for Children or for adults wishing to gain confidence. Once up the mountain there is also Pieste 2000 which is another beginner’s area accessed by a drag and a chair lift. This area is also home to a huge airbag which is a lot of fun to practice your park tricks on.

Intermediates can enjoy the range of blue and red runs that Le Brevent has to offer. The parsa quad is a great place to enjoy some nice blue runs and the modern Les Source and Charlanon chairs offer a speedy and efficient way to enjoy more runs. The new high speed Col Cornu 6 seater is great for exploring the wide red piestes on offer.

Le Brevent is a great place for experienced boarders and skiers alike. There is a huge amount of easily accessible off pieste terrain, not to mention some of the best steep skiing in the valley. Skiing from the top of Brevent is a challenging black decent offering technical areas including mogels and narrow areas, not to mention the daunting steep sides and rocks either side.

In 1997 le Brevent and la Flegere linked together via the Liaison cable car making it an even more desirable skiing area in the valley as it has increased the ski area making it a full and varied day out skiing if you decided to ski both areas.
