La Flegere Skiing - Pistes of Chamonix

The main lift station to Flegere is situated next to the Chamonix golf course, and takes you to an altitude of 1,877m. The highest point you can reach via cable car is 2,595m.

For beginners in Flegere, there are a couple of green runs which can provide the next step up from a nursery slope.

The Trappe is a popular green and also benefits from a chair lift instead of a drag lift (which many beginners dread, especially the boarders!) It is a pretty run, and great for building up confidence onto the next level.

For an advanced skier or boarder, Flegere should not be over looked for the so called more challenging areas of the valley. On a powder day, Flegere is a great spot, and is less crowded than other areas. If it is off pieste you are looking for, you can find some great tracks off the floria drag lift through the powder and also the Crochues and Floria pistes offer some great long and steep skiing.

One of the best tours in the valley is up from the Index where you will need your skins. You climb to over 2540m, then get to enjoy pure powder until you reach the small village of Le Beut on the other side.

Flegere is a great place for the intermediates, as it is not as steep as say Les Grand Montets, it gives you confidence to practice tricks on the many lips and natural kickers the area has on offer. Taking the Index cable car offers you a wide choice of areas from the top, including some off piste areas, not too far from the slopes, so is a great place to try off piste for the first time.

Flegere is great as a quieter resort and fabulous on a powder day, however it isn’t the best area in the valley when it comes to restaurants. It is however ideal if you are looking for a quick snack on a budget as it is probably the cheapest of all the resorts for food. Le Chavanne is a popular place situated on the piste. It attracts the younger crowd and provides some great music while enjoying a beer and tasty snacks. Tendance Foehn and L’Adret are two other restaurants in the Flegere area that provide self service and takeaways.

During the summer months, La Flegere area offers excellent walks including the impressive Lac Blanc.  As Flégère is in the large Aiguilles Rouges range, which is a natural conservation area, dogs are not allowed, even on a leash.

From the Index lift, to Les Praz village, there are some great mountain bike trails, ranging in levels. It is also possible to paraglide from the bottom of the Index lift station.
