Flaine is situated approximately one hours drive from Chamonix and about 1 hour 30 minutes transfer from Geneva. The resort is fantastically suited for beginners and intermediate grade skiers and snowboarders who wish to bring on their technique and style. There is a wonderful range of blue and red pistes that will help raise confidence in new skiers and help build the skills of intermediate skiers also.
To begin there is the gentle wide blues of ‘Olivine’, ‘Cristal’ and ‘Serpentine’ where the inexperienced can enjoy practicing at their own steady pace. Opposite these and running the full distance from the top lift down to the resort is the faster and more challenging red run ‘Faust’. This has a couple of pretty steep sections making for a more thrilling ride.
Flaine is now linked to the Grand Massif area via the new Grand Vans lift which seats up to eight skiers. It’s Due to its speed and size it usually keeps the queues at bay also.
Near the lift, the Tourmaline blue piste lets skiers access the Flaine bowl from the neighbouring villages. This is usually busy and by the end of the day is usually moguled out
Famously Flaine is known for the 14 km Cascades blue slope to Sixt. When attempting this piste you should allow for up to 4 hours for the return to Flaine if going at a gentle pace
Flaine has always been know as a family resort and rightly so with all the children's facilities available (such as the Green Mouse children's ski club) and family oriented hotels. The Flying Dutchman is probably one of the busiest bars in Flaine and as its name suggests is Dutch owned and ran. It has good music and is open till late during the busy season too
